This is how I want to wake up each morning, as I did an hour ago: shifting gently into consciousness from a vivid dream that I remember without having to write it down; being aware of my physical body lying still in bed; attuning myself to the sounds of life in the environment; opening my eyes and savoring being surrounded by my favorite things; softly stretching my mind and reviewing the things I'd planned to do for the day; rising slowly. All this followed by a long, seemingly endless, apparently-shot-in-high-speed breakfast with two cups of brewed coffee.

On mornings like this I mull over pathos. Rather than bringing me pain it brings me sweet smiles and insights of the beauty of God's creation. Without this angst endowed by mortality, imperfection, and human error, our life would be terribly incomplete.

Alas, mornings also remind us of variety and variegation, for no two moments are ever the same. I must reset my alarm tonight to be up at 4:00 AM tomorrow, and be dressed and fully packed for an early pick-up. Tomorrow is a travel day.
