The sun is out. Whenever it is, it seems that it is out for good. It is such an integral part of a tropical country that the landscape is either surreal or incomplete without it.

Very few Filipino painters and photographers make Philippine sunlight a visible aspect of their works. Their portraits, their still lifes, their scapes, and their abstractions are frequently conceived with fluorescent lighting, or are subconsciously lighted as though they were being painted in other countries.

Intellectual imperialism exists, even in art.
